A combination skin is a very common skin type and is essentially a combination of dry skin and oily skin. Skin care for a combination skin can be a very challenging task because it involves separate care for the dry and oily parts and then there should be something common that should maintain the balance between the dry and oily parts. Before going into skincare details for combination skin it is important to know what a T-zone is.
T Zone
The T zone refers to the T shaped region of the face that encompasses the forehead and the central line of the nose, the lips and the chin. In a combination skin, the T zone typically tends to be more oily than the cheek and the other regions of the face. This is because there is more sebaceous gland concentration in this part of the face.
Skin care tips for a combination skin involves separate care for the dry part and the combination parts and then finding a balancing act between the two parts. A general idea to the skin care of combination skin is listed in a point-wise format below.
Cleanser action:
Use a mild cleanser that suits both oily and the dry regions. While cleaning, place more importance on the T zone as that region is more prone to be dirty. A mild foaming cleanser can serve this purpose. For the drier parts, use an oil or foam based cleanser. Apply the mild lathering cleanser then over the T zone afterward. Attain a careful balance between the oil based cleanser and the cleanser for the oily T zone. Avoid alcohol based cleansers for the dry areas.
Moisturize:
Moisturize the drier portion more than the T zone. Keep the application of moisturizer to the T zone a minimum and pay more attention to the temples and the cheeks.
Exfoliate:
Since the T zone is oilier, it must be given more exfoliation. This assuredly cleans the blocked pores and refresh up the oily part. Exfoliating is like allowing the skin to shed the old skin gently.
Use different facial masks for different regions:
Use your discretion while applying a face mask. A moisturizing mask may not be necessary in the T zone and an exfoliating mask can seriously damage the dry zone. So, determine the combination type of your combination skin and then wear face masks accordingly.
